Recently I had the privilege to be part of a mission team to Rachel's Home in Lesotho, S. Africa. One of our church members coordinated your gift for our mission.
Please let your team know that the work they are doing is incredible. I only wish I had taken photos of the children's faces when they put the soup and then fruit in their mouths. From a nutritional viewpoint - the gifts you sent will go further than your group imagines. I was honored and humbled to be the bearer of such wonderful gifts to such unfortunate little ones. For 9 years, the Gleaners food has helped us feed communities in Haiti, Jamaica, and most recently Honduras! Together, we have shipped and distributed over 13 million meals to schools, orphanages, churches, local community organizations, homes for the elderly, and low-income families. We often hear how much the children love the dried vegetable soup mix, and how grateful recipients are that Canadian donors are thinking of them and continue to support them with these food items.
- Andrea Slipek Here is a recent testimonial we received: "In a country like Haiti, many families are forced to choose between separating their children and giving them to wealthy families, or sending them to a children's home to get somewhat of a better life. We send them to school with the little money we have because we Haitians believe that if one of our children succeeds, we all succeed. We need a new generator to supply electricity to the home and a water well, but as long as the kids are safe and fed daily, we will keep going. Despite all of the obstacles, we manage to make do with what we have, and Food for the Poor has been a huge help to us. Thank you so much for all that you have done and for what you will continue to do for us. The kids have never gone a day without a meal because of Food for the Poor Haiti.” - Mrs. Cesar, Director of Cardinal Stepinac Children’s Home in Port-au-Prince, Haiti |
